If the average (arithmetic mean) of 5 consecutive integers is 11, what is the sum of the least and greatest of the 5 integers?
A. 23
B. 22
C. 21
D. 20
E. 19

ANS: B. 22

Explanation:

5 consecutives integers average is 11

(i.e) (a+b+c+d+e)/5=11 [or] a+b+c+d+e=55

Now substitute your own assumed values remember that they are consecutive integers…

9+10+11+12+13=55

So sum of greatest and smallest integers is: 13+9=22

Think this answer would be precise , where no assumption is needed.....

Let the starting number be X

(X+(X+1)+(X+2)+(X+3)+(X+4))/5=11

(X+(X+1)+(X+2)+(X+3)+(X+4))=55

Find X, X will be 9.... X+4=13

so the answer is 9+13, that is 22...... 8)
